Wisconsin Governor to approve strict fine against distracted driving

Governor Scott Walker is planning to sign a newly approved bill to impose a fine against distracted drivers or those who use their hand-held mobile phones while driving, a March 28 article of WISN stated.

The recently approved bill will require drivers in construction areas to pay up to $40 if caught using hand-held cellphones. Repeat offenders, or those drivers who are caught using their phones several times within a year, may need to pay a fine of up to $100. While a total ban on cellphone use while driving is slowly becoming more widely supported in Wisconsin, some legislators are hoping that it will happen soon. Wisconsin reportedly is one of the 46 states that prohibit drivers from text messaging while operating a vehicle. Drivers, in only 14 states, are required to use hands-free technology to make phone calls while in motion.

Distracted driving, unfortunately, is one of many causes of car accidents that leave many people with debilitating injuries.
